What is an effective fee percentage?
It is the total of all deductions (referral/commission, payment or collection fee, closing fee, shipping fee, and GST on fees) divided by the selling price. It tells you what share of the customer's payment the marketplace keeps.
Why do my actual fees differ from these numbers?

Do these numbers include GST on fees?
Yes. For Indian marketplaces, 18% GST on the marketplace's fees is included in the total deduction. If you are GST-registered you can claim this back as input tax credit, which slightly improves your real outcome.

Three Rules of Thumb for Marketplace Fees
- Fixed fees crush cheap products. A ₹75 shipping fee is 37% of a ₹199 product but only 1.5% of a ₹4,999 one. Low-priced items need low-fixed-fee platforms; check the price ladder table above.
- Commission dominates expensive products. At higher price points, the percentage-based referral fee is the biggest deduction — a 5% category-rate difference matters more than any fixed fee.
- The cheapest platform isn't always the most profitable. Lower fees can come with lower traffic, higher return (RTO) rates, or slower payouts. Use fees as one input, not the whole decision.
