Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about favicons
What favicon sizes do I need?
The essentials are favicon.ico (16/32/48 combined), 32×32 and 16×16 PNGs for browser tabs, 180×180 for Apple touch icons, and 192×192 + 512×512 for Android and PWAs. This tool generates all of them in one click.
What image should I upload?
A square image works best — at least 512×512 pixels for crisp results. PNG with transparency, JPG, WebP and SVG are supported. Non-square images are center-cropped automatically.
Can I make a favicon from a letter or emoji?
Yes — switch to the Text & Emoji tab, type up to two characters (or one emoji), pick colors and a shape, and download. Great for quick projects without a logo.
What is favicon.ico and do I still need it?
It's the classic multi-size icon format that browsers request from /favicon.ico by default. Modern browsers accept PNGs, but keeping a favicon.ico ensures older browsers, bookmarks and some tools still find your icon.
How do I add the favicon to my website?
Download the ZIP, put the files in your site's root folder, and paste the provided HTML snippet into the <head> of your pages. The ZIP includes a README and a site.webmanifest for PWA support.
Is this favicon generator free and private?
Yes — completely free, no signup, and your image never leaves your device. All rendering, ICO packing and ZIP creation happen in your browser.
Generate Every Favicon Your Website Needs — Free
A favicon is the small icon browsers show in tabs, bookmarks, history and search results. One image isn't enough anymore: iOS wants a 180×180 apple-touch-icon, Android and PWAs want 192×192 and 512×512 icons declared in a web manifest, and browsers still request the classic favicon.ico. This free favicon generator produces the complete set from a single image — or from a letter or emoji if you don't have a logo yet.

Favicon Best Practices
Start from a square image of at least 512×512 so every size downscales crisply. Keep the design simple — detail disappears at 16×16, so bold shapes and high contrast win. Transparent PNG backgrounds look native in both light and dark browser themes; if your logo needs a backdrop, the generator can add a solid color with square, rounded or circular masking.
